Domain Length
How Long Should Your Domain Be?
What is the proper length of a domain name? In the early days of domaining, it was thought that the
shorter the domain name the better. There are many who believe that a domain name should not be longer than 20
characters. The truth of the matter is one word domains have traditionally sold for large somes of money. Many of
the popular one have in the milllions and hundreds of millions of dollars.
More and more people are becoming less and less focused on the number of characters in a
domain name. While short domain names like Business.com, Name.com, Buy.com, Sell.com, Porn.com have and would sell
for many millions of dollars, the scarity and the tremendous price that someone would have to pay for those short
words have forced consumers to find other options.
Nowadays, phrases are gaining in popularity. If you think about it, the more popular a domain name
the more traffic that site will receive. In turn, any product or service marketed on that site will receive a lot
of attention increasing the likelihood that it will be purchased and interest in it will be boosted. What better
way to do this than with a popular phrase that the majority of people have used, heard, or will easily
remember.
So, if you were concerned about not being about to fork over a few million dollars to purchase a
popular domain name, use a little bit of creativity. Search for a phrase or something that is easy to remember. At
the end of the day, it's not the length of the domain name that you register, rather the ease of remembering
it.
If you think like this, there will be a lot of domain names at your disposal to register.
